ENIT and Böhme & Weihs: Connecting quality and energy management systems

Synergies and short communication channels – Böhme & Weihs takes advantage of the benefits of being a member of the proAlpha Group, to which the energy management specialist ENIT also belongs. We have found out firsthand from ENIT what companies can do in the current energy crisis, whereby our focus is on energy data, energy-relevant indicators and transferring these to existing systems through the network. These topics are all part of an intelligent energy management concept for which ENIT develops hard and software.
Energy consumption is a hot topic given the current gas shortage and increases in the price of electricity as a result of Russia’s war of aggression against the Ukraine. However, securing the supply of energy for production facilities is now also attracting more attention as a growing number of consumers are drawing electricity from the grid as a result of increasing electrification, for example due to electro mobility.

Documenting energy efficiency and your C02 footprint
“Documenting the energy consumption of a company’s production facilities is a requirement that more and more companies are having to deal with” says Kai Klapdor, co-CEO of ENIT. For the OEMs, energy efficiency is increasingly becoming an important criterion on which decisions are based when contracts are awarded. Companies are also asked about their carbon footprint. ENIT balances CO2 footprints – for a company as a whole in the shape of a corporate carbon footprint, as well as for specific products, in the shape of product-specific carbon footprints. And here is the really good news: Companies can apply for state subsidies for transformation projects that use ENIT software.

Determining energy performance indicators (EnPI)
Improving energy efficiency is part of the ISO 50001 certification process. Energy performance indicators (EnPI) allow optimizations to be measured. “We record energy data on a second-by-second basis, determine the energy performance indicators and pass these on to other systems, e.g., your ERP or MES system”, explains Kai Klapdor.

EnPI in CASQ-it
At this point, we posed the question: “Can ENIT also transfer energy performance indicators to a CAQ system?” “Yes, that is possible,” confirms Klapdor. For Böhme & Weihs, one thing is now clear: CASQ-it will document energy performance indicators, for example, for each individual article produced.

And, of course, CASQ-it also helps to avoid cost drivers, such as rejects and reworked products, through its defect-free process control functionality. This means that the future of quality management is set to become both efficient and green!

About ENIT
ENIT, based in Freiburg in the Breisgau region, is a supplier of energy management solutions. Their solution portfolio includes CO2 balancing, their Measurement Concept Planner which acts as the starting point for your energy management system, energy monitoring aimed at monitoring your energy consumption, the acquisition of data from all your existing measuring instruments and reporting in the shape of relevant energy reports.

ENIT emanated from the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE). The young, dedicated team utilizes the growing awareness for resource-saving and intelligent energy management systems and helps companies to implement these accordingly. The goal: To empower companies through a range of individually-tailored services and products to accept responsibility when dealing with the environment and to grow with it in a sustainable manner.
