Flexible Process Adaptation

During implementation, the CAQ solution was adapted to the company's specific manufacturing processes.

What was the
initial situation?

Schmeier primarily manufactures to order and produces approximately 60,000 different products, each of which requires its own individual inspection plan. For many years, quality control relied on Excel spreadsheets and an extended ERP module. However, there was no seamless flow of information between production and the ERP system. Inspection plans, complaints, and quality data had to be maintained manually, which made analyses difficult and limited the ability to capitalize on opportunities for improvement.

Why the decision
Böhme & Weihs?

As part of a structured selection process involving comprehensive requirements specifications, Schmeier chose the CAQ system from Böhme & Weihs. The deciding factors were the system’s extensive range of functions, its modularity, its support for established quality methods, and the solution’s flexibility. The open system architecture was particularly impressive: even company-specific requirements, such as customized partial lot inspections, could be implemented on short notice during the ongoing implementation.

How can success
be measured?

Today, the CAQ system supports incoming goods inspection, in-process batch and intermediate inspections, and complaint management as part of an end-to-end process. Custom inspection plans can be flexibly applied to partial quantities and remain linked to the original production order at all times. Hierarchical defect catalogs enable systematic defect analysis and help identify common defect patterns at an early stage. In this way, Schmeier strengthens its already very high quality performance and consistently pursues the goal of a zero-defect strategy. Customer complaints are now virtually nonexistent.
